Overview

Whilst medium- and long-range laser scanners are necessary in most slope stability applications, shorter range (<300m) laser scanners, with their higher accuracy and lower range noise, are ideally suited for structural stability monitoring, which generally requires greater precision but does not need such long range performance.

Case Study

This data of an historic building near Nottingham, UK shows around 3-4mm of tilting over the monitoring period.

A selected area of data in the upper-right quarter of the facade (indicated by a red box) gives an average displacement of 0.6mm, at a range of around 8.5m. Over 6,000 measurements were used in this selection, out of a total of over 370,000 measured points.
