The successful candidate will have a love for programming, a passion for problem solving and an eye for detail. Significant experience of hardware / software programming in C ++ or C # is essential as is a degree in Computer Science or related field and excellent communication skills.
This position will offer the opportunity to maintain and develop 3D Laser Mapping’s highly acclaimed mobile mapping solution; StreetMapper, amongst other projects. Working both independently and as part of a team some out of office hours support work will be expected as will both UK and overseas travel.

3D Laser Mapping is a world-leading specialist in the development and application of 3D measurement technologies, supplier to 90% of the UK airborne LiDAR operators, and the premier distributor for the Austrian based technology-oriented firm Riegl LMS GmbH. 3D Laser Mapping integrates laser scanner hardware systems with their own software and peripherals to create robust solutions for sectors such as mapping, mining and manufacturing.
3D Laser Mapping is a small, young, self funded and consistently profitable company based in Bingham, a prosperous and thriving market town in Nottinghamshire, just nine miles east of the city of Nottingham.
The position:
A position has arisen for a software developer to join a friendly and dynamic team, offering the chance to make a significant contribution to the direction and development of 3D Laser Mapping’s highly acclaimed mobile mapping solution; StreetMapper, amongst other projects.
The role will include the planning, design, development, documentation and monitoring of specific software projects, working both independently and as part of a team. Additional responsibilities will include the provision of technical support to the diverse global client base.
The regularly scheduled work-week consists of 37.5 hours worked Monday to Friday however occasional out of office hours ‘on-call’ work will be required as will travel both in the UK and overseas. This position reports to the Technical Support Manager.
Position in detail:
- Maintain and develop StreetMapper software: Analyse, design, develop, debug and modify software that is used to support the StreetMapper system. Maintain multiple versions of the software and enable modifications to meet demands of new or upgraded systems – adapting to the changing environment and devising new techniques. Debug existing versions and create patches where necessary.
- Support advances / changes in third party hardware: Develop software support for changes in hardware. Develop new capabilities based on advancing technologies. Create new data analysis tools as required for in-house engineering / project work. Address data, format errors, and questions.
- Create and maintain documentation / working practices: Maintain software documentation. Participate in the integration and debug of new and upgraded systems. Evaluate and specify new computer components. Prepare requirements analysis and test procedures.
The candidate:
You must be bright and literate and have a love for programming. You must have significant experience of hardware and software orientated programming in C++ or C#. Good documentation and communication skills are essential. You will also be willing to travel overseas when required.
Mandatory requirements:
- University Degree in Computer Science or related field
- Proven experience in hardware / software orientated Windows C++, C#, C Programming
- Excellent command of the English language both verbal and written
- Communication skills and the ability to work with non-programmers
- Ability to work alone and as part of a team with excellent self-management skills
- Flexibility to travel – at least 25% of time travelling within the UK and internationally
- Must have the right to live and work in the UK

- An understanding of project delivery timeframes and pride in delivering ahead of schedule
