LiDAR Errors
Typically, laser data may contain the following error sources:
- Errors in laser distance measurement
- Scanning mirror errors
- Errors in position (GPS)
- Errors in orientation (INS)
These errors can easily be seen in the overlapping areas of flight strips where the laser points do not match. TerraMatch solves these systematic errors in position or orientations by comparing overlapping laser strips to obtain the best fit and hence improve the accuracy. The adjustment uses the shape or intensity of the laser points from areas selected by the user.
Key Features
The key features of the software are:
- A fully automatic procedure for correction of laser scanned surfaces.
- Rigid modeling of errors in orientation.
- Least-squares adjustment for estimation of orientation errors.
- The observations are differences in elevation and/or intensity.
- Area-based matching adjusted to the geometry of laser scanning.
- 'Data-snooping' for detection of gross errors.
