Airborne LiDAR is particularly adept at flood mapping due to the large number of accurately generated points that provide a wealth of data for flood plain modeling.
Overview
A LiDAR based survey method has a number of advantages over rival technologies. For instance, aerial photogrammetry has difficulties with highly vegetated areas, as does RADAR systems.
Using the correct software tools such as TerraScan, vegetation and unwanted features can be quickly and reliably removed from the survey data. Using TerraModeler, DTM's, contour plots, and drainage models can be generated easily.
Suggested Scanners
The Riegl LMS-Q560, and Q280i are typically used for flood mapping.
Typical Applications
Capture of 3D scan data for Flood Risk Assessment (FRA), flood plain modeling, and flood defences.
