City Modeling

Airborne laser scanning is being used widely for the capture of city models for applications ranging from urban planning and traffic management, to noise protection and flood mapping. Our laser scanners have a wide field of view, with high accuracy and the ability to combine high resolution digital colour photography with the scan data, making them ideal for this application.

Overview

Transferring laser data from point clouds to CAD strings, virtual models or rectified ortho photographs has, until recently, been a challenge. Through improvements in software solutions such as TerraScan, TerraModeler, and TerraPhoto we can now offer some of the most advanced tools for creating virtual city models.

Typical Applications of City Models

  • Urban planning
  • Traffic management
  • Noise protection
  • Environmental Impact Assessment
  • Flood visualisations
  • Emergency planning
  • Tourism
  • Utilities planning

Suggested Scanners

The Riegl LMS-Q560, Q280i, Q240, and Q240i are typically used for urban mapping.
