PolyWorks
Benefits of PolyWorks:
- It has the flexibility to work with data from a range of scanners
- Using robust algorithms, PolyWorks can efficiently process very large data sets upto 100 million points
- PolyWorks Alignment module uses geometrical shapes for the merging of scans, and therefore control targets are not required in the field during the data capture process
- Geo-referencing of the scan data using as few as three known control points within the survey area, or scanner positions using GPS.
- PolyWorks includes a large range of measurement tools which allow for lengths, heights, angles, radii, volumes and much more to be quickly extracted from the point cloud data.
- Automatic feature extraction tools can be used to generate cross sections, and features such as kerblines, pipe centre lines, electrical cables and many other geometrical primitives, within the point cloud environment
- PolyWorks includes a number of transformation tools for the generation of 3D polygonal models which can be used for visualisation purposes
- Other outputs include DXF and IGES for AutoCAD projects and measurement output for inclusion in GIS databases
The PolyWorks software comprises a number of modules for dealing with both long and short range scan data within a number of application areas, including Engineering & car manufacturing, Architecture, Heritage and Geo-hazard mapping. The aplications listed on the left of this page have all used or have the ability to use PolyWorks in the processing of the scan data.
The IMAlign module is extremely flexible and powerful software for the merging and geo-referencing of individual scans. From this stage, the Inspector and Modeler modules are crucial in the work flow process.
The PolyWorks Modeler module enables polygonal manufacturing in a wide range of applications, with the software being renown for its accuracy, robustness, adaptability and ease of use.
Key applications for the Modeler module are:
- Milling of Polygonal dies, clay models and sculptures
- Rapid protyping
- Aerodynamic simulation and finite-element analysis
- Reverse engineering in CAD
- Preparing accurate models for inspection
- Visualisation of architecture and cultural heritage
The Inspector module allows for the automated inspection of point cloud data from both long and short range scanners and has the following applications:
- Analysis for tool and die design
- Dimensional measurements of physical prototypes
- First-article inspection
The advantages of PolyWorks Modeler and Inspector modules are:
- Significantly more accurate than other commercial software
- Produces polygons that are more accurate than the scanner measurements
- Supports very large datasets without point sampling
- Meshes very thin objects and parts
- Most advanced point cloud inspection techniques for alignment, feature extraction & fitting and automation
PolyWorks IMView
The PolyWorks IMView is a free viewer utility that reads existing PolyWorks inspection projects and that allows users to:
- Visualize measurement results in 3D by rotating color-mapped CAD models, zooming on color-mapped cross-sections, or analyzing Flush & Gap gauge adjustments.
- Navigate easily through inspection results using forward and backward-pointing arrows.
- Obtain basic interactive measurements, such as angles, distances, radii, and cross-sections.
- Generate customized inspection reports in MSWord, MSExcel, and HTML.
- NEW : Visualize and share polygonal models.
The PolyWorks/IMView utility can be easily installed on any network of computers running professional Windows operating systems.
