Overview
The modular system of CITYGRID gives you the tools you need to record and visualize your urban environment by creating a photorealistic, digital and georeferenced reproduction of a city. The surfaces of land, streets, buildings, vegetation and other structures within the developed area are represented in the form of a model.

The 3D model of the city supplies a description of your urban environment that is in conformity with reality while being complete and geodetically precise. You get a new point of view on things by photographing, surveying, reconstructing in three dimensions, managing and visualising buildings and infrastructure. It intensifies the service aspect of municipal administration while allowing work to be done faster, at enhanced quality, at lower cost and with greater focus on people's needs.
The CITYGRID model of the city is:
- in conformity with reality
- up to date
- easy to record
- can be expanded upon
- has a variety of uses
- GIS compatible
The 3D model of the city is a modern aid for planning, simulating and visualising structures in developed areas. Its 3-dimensional representation provides vivid data needed by the city while also being accessible to persons without any expertise in this area of knowledge. With information visualisation, you take a major step forward in shortening project lead time while enhancing the basic factors for making decisions.
Augmented customer benefit from CITYGRID’s model of the city:
- it increases the value of your existing geodata
- it upgrades the possibilities for using geographic information
- it allows you to make a visual check of the completeness and quality of municipal data stocks
- it forms the basis for simulating environmental processes
- it provides you with a vivid representation of building projects and the effects they have on the image of the city
- it provides an objective documentation of urban development
- it gives you a comprehensible illustration of complex topical information in the urban area
Key Applications
- urban planning, urban development, building and site planning
- design, architectural competitions and citizen participation
- real estate management, facility management, radio communications network and urban street network
- building documentation and preservation of evidence during construction work
- preservation of historical monuments and documenting cultural monuments
- road planning, road information systems, traffic sign and lights and ground marking
- visibility studies, information systems for traffic safety
- studies for the fire brigade, rescue services, civil defence and catastrophe management
- simulating floods, microclimates, the spread of air pollution, noise propagation, aiming solar cells, light and shadow, environmental compatibility studies
- tourism information systems, location-based services, digital tour guides, information kiosks and internet visualization
- navigation systems and the entertainment industry

CITYGRID Modeler
The CITYGRID Modeler optimises data for quickly creating 3D models of the city from the municipal data stock. Every individual building in the model of the city is stored in the database, allowing you to edit them graphically and link them to all georeferenced information. User-friendly routines enable you to quickly add photorealistic textures to facades and roofs. This database-supported application gives you the tools for creating, processing and updating all-inclusive and completely textured city models while allowing you to export any size areas as *.dwg or VRML.
CITYGRID Planner
The CITYGRID Planner supports urban planning and the building control office in assessing the building project by representing drafts or architectural models in direct relation to the surrounding stock of buildings. Visual relations, cubature, distances and maintaining building guidelines of different planning variations can be checked immediately and illumination situations and vegetation variations can be easily simulated. It also allows you to prepare meaningful views and vivid animation for presentations on short order.
CITYGRID Explorer
The CITYGRID Explorer can be used for visualisation and interactive and web-compatible exploration of 3-dimensional cities, making real-time inspection of large-scale photorealistic models of the city a reality.
CITYGRID Ortho
CITYGRID Ortho generates 3D Orthophotos from 3D laser scans and photographs providing easy analysis of building facades and interiors in a CAD system. Views, cuts and models of building details can now be produced very efficiently.
CITYGRID Manager
The CITYGRID Manager is in charge of data management. The data required for a georeferenced digital model of the city are managed with the support performance of a database while linking 3D structures with the existing GIS update data.
