Overview
Unlike other laser scanners which have cameras built-in, the RIEGL system allows the camera and/or lenses to be changed to suit the scanning job. The outstanding performance of these cameras means they are capable of being used for more than identifying scan areas! The level of detail and accuracy enables capture of data for orthophoto generation, photogrammetry, and texturing of meshes.
The operation of the cameras of smoothly integrated into the scanner control and data capture software, RiSCAN PRO.
High performance cameras
RIEGL scanners are specified with either Canon or Nikon digital SLR cameras, including the Nikon D40 and D200, and the Canon EOS 350D and 400D.
The unrivalled image quality and reliability of these cameras is well-known and gives the scanner operator confidence that the imagery he is capturing is the best available.
The cameras can be supplied with one or more lenses, depending on the requirements of the client. |

Mounting and calibration
The cameras are externally mounted, on the top or side of the scanner depending on the scanner model, and they are calibrated before leaving the factory to within one pixel accuracy. High-quality mounts have been designed to ensure the camera is held rigidly within the calibration, allowing it to be removed when not required, and accuracy re-mounted. |
