Mobile Laser Scanning

Both RIEGL 2D and 3D laser scanners are ideally suited for mobile mapping applications. In order to register scan data acquired from moving platforms, such as boats, trains, road and off-road vehicles, the laser scanner is supplemented by position and attitude sensors, for example GPS (Global Positioning System) and IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit).

All RIEGL scanners are rugged and fully portable instruments, tested under strict conditions for a reliable performance even under highly demanding environmental conditions.

RIEGL VQ-450

The V-Line “Full Circle” laser scanner RIEGL VQ-450 is a very high speed, non-contact profile measuring system using a narrow infrared laser beam and a fast line scanning mechanism, enabling full 360 degree beam deflection without any gaps. It is characterized by a Laser Pulse Repetition Rate (PRR) of up to 550 kHz and a scanning rate of up to 200 lines per second. Multitarget capability based on echo digitization and online waveform analysis offers superior measurement capabilities even under adverse atmospheric conditions.

RIEGL VQ-250

The “Full Circle” laser scanner RIEGL VQ-250 is a very high speed, non-contact profile measuring system using a narrow infrared laser beam and a fast line scanning mechanism, enabling full 360 degree beam deflection without any gaps. High-performance pulsed laser ranging, based on RIEGL’s well-proven echo signal digitization technology with subsequent online waveform analysis results in superior measurement capabilities even under adverse atmospheric conditions and in excellent multiple target echo discrimination.

The RIEGL VQ-250 is a compact and lightweight scanner, mountable in any orientation and even under limited space conditions on land based vehicles, tunnel measuring devices, watercrafts, etc. The instrument needs only one power supply and provides discrete line scan data, directly stored on a computer system, via the integrated LAN-TCP/IP interface. The binary data stream can easily be decoded by user-designed software using the available software library RiVLib.

The RIEGL VQ-250 is optimally suited for Mobile Mapping from a variety of moving platforms, such as cars, railway vehicles, ships, boats, etc.

Note: In Germany and in the U.S.A. only, use of the VQ-250 for other applications than Mobile Mapping and Tunnel Profile Measurement is not permitted.

RIEGL VQ-180

The V-Line 2D Laser Scanner RIEGL VQ-180 provides high speed, non-contact data acquisition using a narrow infrared laser beam and a fast line scanning mechanism. High accuracy laser ranging is based on RIEGL´s unique echo digitization and online waveform analysis, which allows achieving superior measurement capability even under adverse atmospheric conditions and the evaluation of multiple target echoes. The scanning mechanism is based on a fast rotating multi-facet polygonal mirror, which provides fully linear, unidirectional and parallel scan lines.
The RIEGL VQ-180 is a very compact and lightweight scanner, mountable in any orientation and even under limited space conditions on moving platforms, such as boats, trains, road and off-road vehicles. The new, fully integrated, accurate, and compact RIEGL VMZ Hybrid Mobile Laser Mapping System enables combined static and kinematic data acquisition using a single RIEGL VZ-400, VZ-1000 or VZ-2000 laser scanner – resulting in lower mobilization costs and a high return on investment.
