For large open pit mining operations, where monitoring must take place from a safe position on the opposite wall, a range of up to 2.5km will be more important than speed. For smaller open pit mines and engineering works, a measurement rate of 8,000 points per second and an accuracy up to 4mm will be preferable over a long range performance.
SiteMonitor is available in three packages to suit the performance requirements. The significant specifications of the hardware are shown in the following table:

A number of factors will influence the repeatability of SiteMonitor's measurements. These include:
- Number, position, and stability of control points
- Stability of the scanner's setup (for permanent installations)
- Angle of incidence of the laser beam to the target surface
The values given above are typical for the laser hardware included. Careful planning of the SiteMonitor installation has been shown to improve the accuracy and repeatability of measurements over and above the manufacturer's specifications. However, as with any work involving laser scanning, the achievable range and accuracy performance is dependent on a number of other factors, including:
- Reflectivity of target
- Atmospheric conditions
- Availability of direct line-of-sight to area of interest
