21st October 2009 - StreetMapper 360 Maps Bournemouth in 3D

Ordnance Survey has unveiled an incredibly detailed and accurate 3D map of the English seaside resort of Bournemouth. Ordnance Survey (OS) captured every square metre of the town centre using a combination of land based laser scanning - including the world’s most accurate mobile mapping system StreetMapper 360, and aerial laser surveying. Created from 700 million individual laser point measurements, the 3D map could represent the future of mapping and illustrates how the work of the national mapping agency could change with the adoption of laser scanning technology. + More

 

6th October 2009 - Laser Scanning Robot Maps Historic Tin Mine

A revolutionary laser scanning robot has been used to create a highly accurate 3D model of an historic tin mine in Cornwall. Developed by Jobling Purser RSV LLP with support from Nottingham based 3D Laser Mapping the robot, 3D-R1, utilises the latest laser scanner hardware combined with wireless communications and advanced robotic technology. It automatically captures millions of sub-centimetre accurate survey measurements, at speed and in dangerous or inhospitable environments. 7th September 2009 - 3D Laser Mapping first to equip Kenya with advanced laser scanner

East Africa is set to benefit from the latest laser mapping technology following the purchase of a high specification laser scanner by Kenyan firm Ramani Geosystems. Supplied by UK-based 3D Laser Mapping, the Riegl LMS Z420i scanner can map the terrain in 3D up to 1,000 metres away with an accuracy of 10mm. Thought to be the first high performance terrestrial laser scanner in the region, the scanner’s rugged design is ideally suited for use in challenging environments. Ramani Geosystems is a multi disciplinary geospatial services company based in Nairobi. The company purchased the laser scanner in order to widen their portfolio of surveying solutions, deliver high end surveying services to existing clients and provide access to new markets. + More

 

27 August 2009 - StreetMapper mobile laser system marks success in California

The world’s most accurate mobile mapping system StreetMapper, has achieved accuracies of better than 1cm on a test area specifically designed to evaluate mobile laser scanning systems. Operated by Terrametix, LLC and designed by UK based 3D Laser Mapping the StreetMapper system was put through its paces on a stretch of highway in San Diego.  The route was chosen by the Californian Department of Transportation (Caltrans) to help companies advance mobile laser scanning technology through independent evaluation against known control points. + More

 

2nd Jul 2009 - StreetMapper Revolutionises Highway Surveying in The Netherlands

High speed laser mapping by StreetMapper is revolutionising highway surveying in the Netherlands. Following the delivery of a StreetMapper system to Geomaat by 3D Laser Mapping, the Dutch surveying specialist has achieved sub centimetre accurate measurements whilst travelling at normal traffic speeds. StreetMapper is the world’s most accurate mobile laser mapping system and was used to survey a stretch of four-lane highway in the northern Netherlands without the need for road closures or other safety precautions. 3D Laser Mapping has been selected to supply its StreetMapper technology as part of a futuristic project to advance mobile mapping. StratAG, based at the University of Ireland, brings together researchers from across Ireland and is focussed around the generic theme of Geospatial Monitoring and Early Warning. 3D Laser Mapping, the UK based specialists in laser measurement technology and software, has used a state of the art survey system to monitor the risk of flooding amid fears a dam may fail following recent torrential rain. 15th Feb '07 - 3D Laser Mapping technology tracks dinosaurs

3D Laser Mapping has supplied a high performance laser scanning system to assist with a European research project to map the footprints of dinosaurs. The project, jointly undertaken by the University of Manchester and Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, used an advanced RIEGL laser scanner with integrated digital camera and satellite positioning technology to accurately record and locate individual dinosaur footprints.  The project is tracing the movements of dinosaurs and is assessing the effects of weathering and erosion on the footprints. + More

3D Laser Mapping the Nottinghamshire based electronic surveying specialist, has completed a project to map part of the South Coast of England using high speed, mobile laser scanning technology. The project, commissioned by New Forest District Council in partnership with the Channel Coast Observatory, employed laser scanning to monitor changes in coastal defence structures over time.
